Sri Bhramaramba — She who slew Arunasura
শ্রী ভ্রমরাম্বা — যিনি অরুণাসুর বধ করেছিলেন
Sri Bhramaramba Ammavari Shakti Peetham stands on the holy plateau of the Nallamala range, at an elevation of 476 metres above sea level, on the southern bank of the Krishna river — known here as Patalaganga. The temple complex is part of the historic Srisailam Devasthanam, a kshetra revered across all four of Bharat's Vedic traditions.
The presiding deity, Goddess Bhramaramba, is celebrated in the Devi Bhagavata Purana as the form the Mother assumed to vanquish the demon Arunasura. He had obtained the boon that no two‑legged or four‑legged creature could slay him; the Goddess therefore manifested as a swarm of countless six‑legged bees and destroyed him — earning her the eternal name Bhramaramba, the Mother of the Bees.
It is the only kshetra in Bharat where a Jyotirlinga and a Maha Shakti Peetha are enshrined within the same temple complex — Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy as the second of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and Sri Bhramaramba Devi as one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas extolled by Adi Shankaracharya.
শ্রী ভ্রমরাম্বা আম্মাবারি শক্তিপীঠম্ অবস্থিত নাল্লামালা পর্বতমালার পবিত্র মালভূমিতে, সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠ থেকে ৪৭৬ মিটার উচ্চতায়, কৃষ্ণা নদীর দক্ষিণ তীরে — যা এখানে পাতালগঙ্গা নামে পরিচিত। মন্দির প্রাঙ্গণ ঐতিহাসিক শ্রীশৈলম্ দেবস্থানমের অংশ — একটি ক্ষেত্র, যা ভারতের চারটি বৈদিক পরম্পরায় পূজিত।
প্রধান দেবী, ভ্রমরাম্বা, দেবীভাগবত পুরাণ‑এ অরুণাসুর বধের জন্য মাতার গৃহীত রূপ হিসেবে বর্ণিত। অরুণাসুর বরপ্রাপ্ত ছিল যে কোনো দ্বিপদ বা চতুষ্পদ প্রাণী তাকে বধ করতে পারবে না; তাই দেবী অসংখ্য ষষ্ঠপদ ভ্রমরের ঝাঁক রূপে প্রকট হয়ে তাকে বিনাশ করেন — সেই থেকেই তাঁর শাশ্বত নাম ভ্রমরাম্বা।
ভারতবর্ষে এটিই একমাত্র ক্ষেত্র যেখানে এক জ্যোতির্লিঙ্গ ও এক মহাশক্তিপীঠ একই মন্দির প্রাঙ্গণে প্রতিষ্ঠিত — মল্লিকার্জুন স্বামী দ্বাদশ জ্যোতির্লিঙ্গের দ্বিতীয় রূপে, এবং শ্রী ভ্রমরাম্বা দেবী আদি শঙ্করাচার্য কথিত ১৮ মহাশক্তিপীঠের অন্যতম রূপে।
